It can be daunting to face a decision about when a loved one needs more care. As dementia care needs become more challenging, the personal support families need to ensure their loved ones safety and well-being also change.

According to NIA (National Institute on Aging) more than 7 million Americans are living with a dementia-related diagnosis. Many will eventually require more care and support in their journey. The answer is not always clear. But the signs may be there, as gradual changes happen.

Behaviors such as withdrawal, expressive fears and agitation are some of these signs. Physical health changes as well such as unexplained weight loss, missed medications and poor hygiene can also occur. Often, confusion and disorientation can be exhibited through resistance, moodiness or combative / aggressive behavior as well as wandering can present itself in affecting safety, and require more supervision.
